UNDERSTANDING THE ESSENCE OF TIME.

When the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse, they say, is inevitable. The effective use of anything, whatsoever, is a function of a proper understanding of its purpose. When the essential functions of a thing is not properly understood, at least, to a considerable extent, not only will one underutilize the potentials of the thing, but also abuse it greatly.

One thing that God has so much bless humanity with is, “TIME”. Time is a universal commodity, as we usually say, and of course that’s truth. It is like a universal currency of the same value given to everyone freely. Another thing we need to understand about time is that it is a very critical factor to success in life. Without a proper understanding of the essence of time, one can hardly achieve anything worthwhile in life, as far as time is very much concerned.

Doesn’t it interest us to know that the same 24 hours given to a very rich successful man is the same given to one is not successful. The number of hours, days, months and years that a successful student has access to is the same for the rest of the students who probably are not as successful as he/she is.  But, what then accounts for the difference? Why are some living to fulfil destiny and some are living as destitute? Why are there so much gap of variation in us in respect to being successful and being a failure ? Well, the answers to them is very simple, and not fat fetched; it is the proper management of time.  Since time is a common factor to every of our activities, then the differences in our outcome in life can be very much accounted for by how well we manage time.
Time, however, will hardly be managed unless there is a proper understanding of its essence. When you understand the very essence of time, managing it to achieve optimum result will naturally flow out of that understanding. Time is the quantity of the availability of duration according to Oxford English dictionary. It is what gives us a sense of beginning and ending. With time, we understand that nothing comes to stay forever; everything actually comes to go. So, nothing, to us, is permanent, not even our troubles.

We also need to understand, however, that there is another quantity of duration that is not a function of time. It has no beginning and no ending. It is called eternity. Eternity is an endless duration  or period (as far as time is concerned). God, our creator, is eternal (has no beginning, but no end), and he created us as eternal beings also. Though, we have beginning but there is no end to us. We are made to last forever. That’s our nature as determined by God. So, our lives are meant to continue forever. But, does that mean that time does not apply to us? Of course, it does! The question is, why did God create time ? Why are we on earth, that is being principally governed by time, if we are real eternal beings? The answer is what forms the main subject of this article.

God created us and put us in time in order to regulate and order our lives. The basic truth you need to understand is that, your being in this world is not for the purpose of just being a biological being. No; it is for a reason. God is a God of purpose and whatever he does is inspired and informed by the purpose he has in mind. You are created because you are needed. So, God created you and put you in time, even though you are eternal, in order to regulate your life and measure its progress. Imagine how disorganized life will be without time. It is time that helps to direct our course of actions. It gives an understanding that we will not be here on earth forever. Time is always telling us that we are here for a purpose. And, the duration given to us to fulfil it is running out. So, the basic essence of time is to regulate our actions and activities and engagements in life in order for us to live to fulfil our purpose in life.
Many who do not know how to manage time (those who waste so much of their time) are those who lack understanding of its essence. See, when you understand how critical time is to your destiny, you will not dare waste it at all. Time is the referee of life. When the match ends, it tells you. I like you to sit down and think my brother /Sister. Have you discovered your purpose in life? Time is watching. Have you ever found something meaningful and purposeful doing with your life and time.? Time is watching. What are you living your life for? Take time to think very critically. How much is your life adding value to others? And the greatest of all is that, have you entered into a relationship with God through his son, Jesus Christ? He is the only source of life — I mean the real life. If you don’t have Christ;  I’m sorry, you don’t have life.

Make adequate plans for your life. Live to fulfil purpose. Don’t just live aimlessly or purposelessly. Live with a sense of responsibility. Take your time very serious and manage it very carefully. This is what makes your life productive and fulfilling. Each second of the minute counts greatly. Never underestimate the value and the power of time. Imagine how the football match will be without a referee. It’s the referee that regulates and orders the match. This is exactly what time is essentially about. It’s to also regulate and order our lives. But, time can be best productive if only we understand it’s essence and management.
Time management is a pivotal key to any successful endeavors in life. Manage your time well and you will be surprised at how productive your life can be. God bless you
